African safari operators, naturalists, and country regulations are clear: do not wear camouflage patterns. The concern is real and legitimate. Military-pattern camouflage carries paramilitary associations across much of the continent, and safari forums for Tanzania and its neighbors bring it up constantly. Some countries restrict it outright, so check with your operator. This is not an overreaction. It is rooted in actual history, and respecting it is basic travel courtesy.
